The Department of Tribal Studies at the Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh, Vizianagaram, celebrated the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas or Tribal Pride Day to honour tribal freedom fighter, Birsa Munda and other tribal leaders. The program inaugurated by Honorable vice chancellor of CTUAP, followed with flowering tribute to the tribal hero, Birsa Munda. The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Divya K, the Convener, followed by opening remarks from Dr.Anirudh Kumar, the Head (I/c) of the Department of Tribal Studies.
Prof. T.V. Kattimani, the Honourable Vice Chancellor of CTUAP given detailed narration of role and contribution of Birsa Munda. During the session, faculty members of CTUAP shared the Biosketch and inspiring events happened in the life of Birsa Munda. In a detailed discussion, the socio-cultural context of tribes and their challenges from zamindars and local money lenders has recollected by the speaker Prof. T.V. Kattimani. The speaker shared that the situation of tribes still remains dire.Their educational and healthcare needs require reconsideration, especially for vulnerable tribal children. Government plans and tribal policies must be implemented to improve the well-being of tribal communities. Ironically, most development policies have proven detrimental to the well-being of tribes.
On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Indian freedom fighter, Birsa Munda, Prof. T.V. Kattimani stated that a series of tribal centric programme is scheduled to conduct for educating the students, stakeholders and community members. As instructed by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Ministry of Education, the Department of Tribal Studies has scheduled cultural events like Dhimsa dance, tribal songs, essay writing competitions, tribal quiz, capacity building programmes for stakeholders, seminar, community extension activities has been charted to educate the society about the history and legacy of tribal leaders in Andhra Pradesh and India.
The program concluded with vote of thanks and all the faculty members, other staffs and students participated in the programme.
