The University came into force on 5th Aug 2019 as per the provision of Central University (Amendment) Act 2019. It is a fully funded by the Central Government through the University Grants Commission. The University is dedicated to providing an exceptional learning environment and outstanding, relevant academic programmes. It envisions fostering the personal, cultural, and environmental development of the people, particularly tribes. The University is striving to realise the aspiration of the tribal community for higher education.

To be a University of excellence in the domain of higher education committed to providing an environment conductive to learning, offer outstanding, relevant academic programs, promote individual, cultural and environmental progress of the people, especially tribal, of the State of Andhra Pradesh, the Nation and the World.
OBJECTIVES
The Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh has set the following aims and objectives to achieve.
- To provide avenues of education and research facilities to the students with special focus on tribal students. To disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities which also focus on tribal education and research and in such other branches of learning as it may deem
- To disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in tribal art, tradition, culture, language, medicinal systems, customs, forest base economic activities, flora, and fauna besides making available to them the advancement in technologies concerning the natural resources of the tribal areas.
- To collaborate with national and international Universities and organizations to undertake joint cultural studies and research on tribal communities.
- To formulate tribal centric development models, publish reports and monographs and to organize conferences and seminars on issues relating to tribes and to provide inputs to the Government(s) on policy matters in different spheres.

Schools and Departments
The University follows the school structure, and consists of three schools with thirteen departments and fourteen programmes. The academic framework is meant to provide a diverse learning environment marked by robust faculty-student interaction and a great balance of structure and flexibility. One of the objectives of the school is to nurture the personal and professional development of students so that they may contribute to society and the nation at large.
