Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh Organized a Workshop on Creating Safe Campus: Awareness on Sexual Harassment and Women’s Safety on 17th September 2025 at CTUAP, Vizianagaram Transit campus. Chief guest of the workshop was Smt. P. Soumya Latha, Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin.), Vizianagaram. The program aimed to spread awareness among students and staff about issues of
sexual harassment, women’s safety, and the role of ICC in creating a secure academic environment.
The program began at 11:30 AM with a Welcome Address and a brief introduction of the Resource Person by Dr. Divya K., Member, ICC, CTUAP. This was followed by a Message from Prof. Jitendra Mohan Mishra, Registrar (I/C), CTUAP, who emphasized the importance of sensitization workshops in fostering respect, dignity, and equality on campus.
Chief guest Smt. P. Soumya Latha, Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin.), Vizianagaram, during her speech, highlighted legal frameworks, preventive measures, and the significance of student awareness in curbing harassment. During her invited speech, Smt. P. Soumya Latha also highlighted the Shakti App, an initiative launched by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to ensure women’s safety. She explained its features, including the emergency alert system, real- time location tracking, and direct connectivity with the police control room. The app empowers
women to seek immediate help in unsafe situations with a single click. She emphasized its importance as a preventive and protective tool for ensuring quick response. Students were encouraged to download and actively use the Shakti App for their personal safety.
Dr. P. Sridevi, Chairperson, ICC, CTUAP, spoke about Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) CTUAP, explaining its composition, role, and mechanisms for addressing complaints related tosexual harassment. She explained how to lodge complaint to the ICC and encouraged students not to remain silent if something unwanted happened with them. An Interactive Session with Students was conducted where participants actively shared their queries. During the workshop, to make the session more impactful, a few videos were also played for the students, demonstrating how the Shakti App works in real-life situations. The Presidential Address was delivered by Prof. T. Srinivasan, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (I/C), CTUAP. He stressed the university’s commitment to building a safe, inclusive, and gender-sensitive academic environment.
The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. N.V.S. Suryanarayana, Administrative Officer, CTUAP, followed by the National Anthem. The workshop was well-received by participants and successfully met its objective of sensitizing students and staff to issues concerning sexual harassment and women’s safety.
