The Department of Tribal Studies, CTUAP organized a memorial event to honour the legendary tribal hero Birsa Munda, who passed away on June 9, 1900. The Honourable Vice Chancellor, Prof. T.V. Kattimani, along with the teaching and non-teaching staff, paid floral tribute to the portrait of Birsa Munda.
Prof. Anirudh Kumar, Head of the Department of Tribal Studies, spoke about the life and struggles of Birsa Munda. Prof. Bonthu Kotaiah narrated the biography of the iconic tribal leader, while Dr. Divya K., Assistant Professor, shared insights on the Birsa Munda movement, with a focus on land rights and the tribal resistance against colonial exploitation.
Prof. T.V. Kattimani also addressed the gathering, highlighting the issues of violence against tribal communities and elaborating on the socio-cultural aspects of the Munda tribes, particularly in the Chhattisgarh region. He emphasized the glorious legacy and invaluable contributions of Birsa Munda as a tribal freedom fighter and a symbol of indigenous pride. Dr. Divya K. the Programme Coordinator has concluded the programme with a formal vote of thanks.
