Adi Chittara: National Tribal Painters’ Conclave

The Department of Sociology, in collaboration with the Departments of English, Tribal Studies, and Social Work, organized Adi Chittara: National Tribal Painters Conclave on March 1st and 2nd, 2025, at the MR School of Management Studies, Fort Campus, Vizianagaram. Convened by Dr. Prama Chatterjee, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, and Dr. Venkateswarlu, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Dr. Debanjana Nag, Assistant Professor, CTUAP. the event was inaugurated by Pusapati Ashok Gajapati Raju, Former Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Chairman, MANSAS, Vizianagaram, Prof. Sharath Ananthamurthy, Vice Chancellor of Kuvempu University, Karnataka, along with Padma Shri Durga Bai, renowned Gond painter, and Prof. T.V. Kattimani, Vice Chancellor of CTUAP. Dr. K.V. L Raju, Correspondent, MANSAS, Vizianagaram, Prof B.S. N. Raju, Principal of MR School of Management Studies were present.  The dignitaries emphasized the cultural significance of tribal art in society. The conclave witnessed the participation of famous tribal painters from Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and other regions, who showcased their community’s traditional art forms. A total of 28 resource persons took part, displaying and selling their paintings, attracting visitors from Vizianagaram, Bobbili, and Visakhapatnam, making the event a vibrant platform for promoting tribal heritage and craftsmanship.

The conclave aims to celebrate the rich artistic heritage of tribal communities and foster discussions on their invaluable contributions to the world of art and culture. This event will be an Exhibition cum Sale , providing a platform for tribal artists to showcase and sell their Paintings of tribal painters from across the country.
